This complete revision was prompted by submission of Neurospora P450s from Ralph Dean.  Many of the sequences have undergone some changes and the result is a better and more complete P450 gene set. 

 

Contig numbering:

There are 821 contigs (longer than 2kb) in 173 supercontigs

example: cont3.282 indicates version 3 of the assembly

contig 282.

 

31 supercontigs have P450s.  8 supercontigs have more than one P450.  Only two contigs have more than one P450.

contig 332 has CYP527A1, 528A1 and 529A1. 527A1 and 528A1 are about 1700 bp apart.  529A1 is about 80,000 bp away.

contig 625 has CYP552A1 and 526B1.  These two CYPs are about 3200 bp apart. Other P450s are farther apart, so there are only two P450 gene clusters and they have only two genes each.  These genes are not closely related to each other.  There may be more clusters after the genome is assembled and the supercontigs are ordered.

 

The 41 sequences occur in 39 families.  CYP65B1 and CYP65C1 are about 45% identical.  527A1 and 527B1 are only 42% identical.  This means that recent gene duplication has not played a major role in P450 diverisification in Neurospora, like it has in plants and animals with large gene clusters of very similar P450 genes.

 

contigs are ordered inside supercontigs, but supercontigs are not ordered.  They are named by decreasing size. 

Therefore, contig 3.101 and 3.102 are adjacent (in supercontig 5), but contig 3.102 and 3.103 are in two different supercontigs and they are not adjacent.
